Often we have big dreams. Things we want to do, things we want to achieve, places we want to go. This is all great but what about the day to day detail? Do you feel like a hamster on a wheel? Do you have a frazzled look on your face most of the time? Is your To Do list forever getting longer and you just don’t have enough time.

In the gloomy days, I can already feel myself having a little doze on the sofa in front of Grand Designs (I have very little sense after 9pm) and setting my alarm earlier and earlier to make sure I get everything done.

The key is to remember is that life is a marathon not a sprint, we all need to avoid ‘burnout’. We can’t sweat the small stuff- there is only so much we can do in a day and the majority of the time we are doing a pretty nifty juggling act. So don’t beat yourself up and if you need help, ask for it. Getting help will free you up to do the tasks you are best at- so you will be the best version of you.

Here are 5 Check In Strategies to help you.

Many of us have had a healthy January. We have beaten the ‘full up’ feeling of Christmas and starting to feel a little bouncy. However it is not just about counting calories. Are you eating enough? Are you eating nutritious food that is going to give you the energy and brain power you need. For inspiration have a look at Mind Body Green.

We still don’t have many day light hours so the temptation is stay under the duvet for longer. If you need sleep, take it. If you need some time when you are ‘unavailable’ take it. You will be more productive in the long run. And the slightly ‘frazzled look’ will thank you for it.

Time off

Just for you. Life can get too busy. Sometimes we need some time that is just ours. Time to process thoughts, mull things over and gain clarity. If this is something you struggle to fit in or feel guilty about, start to enter it as a diary entry. We don’t miss doctor’s or dentist appointments so we must give time for our brains to rejuvenate too.  Often I have some of my best ideas when I am out and about, driving or having an early morning run in Ally Pally not stuck at my desk so do activities you love and the benefits will filter down through your life.

Time with friends and family

Time with loved ones when we are fully present is brilliant for the soul. You can relax, laugh and shake off the day or any worries you may help. Regular time around people who love you is essential for your well being. Encouragement and support will actually make you achieve more.

Mind chatter

Make sure you are being kind to yourself. Observe what you are saying and don’t be too hard on yourself. To avoid overwhelm, flip perspective. Instead of ‘I never have enough time’ say’ Ok, I have an hour what can I do?’. Often it is better to do one task really well than multi task and still have lots outstanding. If you are struggling with a particular issue… the solution may not present itself just yet. So take it one step at a time. Just focus on the first action you need to take and the other steps will follow in sequence.
