I work 1:1 (short term/long term), offer online solutions, share multi platform content, collaborate with brands and speak on international stages.
I am much more interested in how something fares in the real world.
It is too easy to follow a formula or curate a highlights real.
Or ask AI to give you some generic answers about what makes you, you.
Or to complete the task of pulling together the 'polished, professional' version of you; that is neat, tidy and ticks the boxes.
In my 15 years of being a personal brand coaching; I often see a disconnect.
The embodiment piece is missing.
The personal brand isn't 'out in the world'.
There is a lack of flow or ease. A visibility rhythm hasn't been found. The persona we read about on your styled website is maybe not as interesting as the person in the room. Or you have all the amazing skills, qualities, experience etc but they are not converting into sales, meetings, customers, opportunities and cash.
The clue is in the title. You need to have the 'personal' in the personal brand. Therefore this work we do together is essential.
The piece that is often missing is connection and it is really difficult to fake.
You need to be connected to it all; your products/services, your pricing, your story, your messaging, your ideal clients and the solutions they are seeking. How you feel about being visible. The impact you want to create. How you feel about yourself in this season of your life.
Sometimes clients come to me because they want to take their personal brand in a new direction or it needs some tweaks to make it feel a lot more like 'them'.
Sometimes clients are hiding or holding back. They are blocking and stopping their progress. Or they have been navigating a life chapter that has required them to just survive rather than thrive.
Or they just get their niggle. It's time for more. More alignment, more authenticity, more money, more impact, more of the good stuff and more you.
Being bold enough to ask the bigger questions and receive the big answers. Cultivating the courage to carve out your path and lean into your preferences and what feels good.
To finally make the moves that you have been thinking about for so long. To build momentum and welcome your long awaited results.
Firstly I want to share that I have been building a personal brand for the last 26 years... so I get it! The highs, the lows, the challenges, the changes, the systems, the freedom, the reinvention, the limiting beliefs... all of it...
Then the professional angle. I qualified as a personal performance coach in 2013; certified by the Coaching Academy.
I have been working in the strategy space since 2008.
I am a trained actor; so bring 'player 2' energy. The term 'role play' can be a bit cringe; so I prefer player two. I can be your accountability partner, your sounding board, 'the other person' - the person you are selling to, pitching to or the audience you want to win over. So many people say; 'I'll do the work when the opportunity comes'; however I work the other way round; I would rather help you accelerate the speed of the opportunity coming in by doing the work now; so you are ready to receive it.
What you want...
There isn't one version of 'success'. You get to choose it all. So therefore you must consider the big questions and therefore the big answers. Take the time to be very specific about what you are optimising for and what goals you want to achieve. It is so easy to follow a formula or easily accessible to squeeze yourself into a template or outsource your autonomy to a 'chat' you've just 'met'. However your next chapter needs more space, intuition, reflection and consideration
Audiences are brilliant, considered and discerning
Over the last nearly 20 years, I have witnessed a lot of shady business. Unethical practices, scaremongering sales techniques, lies(!), sales pages full of promise that deliver no substance. Audiences can sniff it all out. They want something different; valuable, kindness, transformation. The buyer is savvy and enlightened when it comes to online buying experiences; so be the person that is accomplished and exceeds expectations.
Personalised transformation
There is not one way to succeed. Our clients/audience need us to meet them where they are at. They need flexibility, understanding and compassion. Not everyone needs to be in the 5am club working 18 hours per day. We need to be able to access what we need; in a way and at a time where we can receive it.
Your audience want to browse and get to know you
Content is a fantastic way to build a relationship and a reputation with your audience. They don't want to be spammed with soulless copy and pasted messages; they want rapport without pressure and always with genuine connection.
Your job is not to help everyone...
I never thought I would say this; as this is not my natural state. However if I am not clear, optimised and specific; I end up doing very surface, shallow work; which doesn't align with my values. However when I acknowledge and then focus on my most excellent strengths and skills; that's when I can not only connect and solve a problem, I create transformation and results.
Your personal brand is about you AND your audience.
You
You can build something bespoke that celebrates and elevates your skills, experience, talents etc.
The design can compliment your goals, personality and circumstances.
You can create from integrity and alignment; what feels good to... rather than feeling pressured by 'shoulds'
Defining your own measures of success; financial, flexibility, variety of work etc
Working with the season of your life; perhaps the traditional 9-5pm office based business model is not feasible or desired; so let's work with your life; not fight against it.
Them
aka your audience, customers, clients...
They enjoy the 'personalisation' - when every scroll online can feel very automated and samey; your unique twist will be appreciated by 'your' people.
'People want to buy from people' - your ideal clients are looking for connection; the person behind the business. When you show who you are; it gives your client to be exactly who they are.
Through your content; your audience can get to know, like and trust you in their own time.
Seeing the 'person behind the brand' will improve a feeling of 'purchasing with confidence' - especially important in these financial times.
They get to witness difference; your energy, spark and enthusiasm; for you to be a fresh contributor to your space and for them to feel represented and considered.
I love being part of the conversation of 'playing full out'. Regularly I have 'pinch me' moments. My 7 year old self can't believe it; yet she knew!
My work has taken me to television, radio, film, working with global brands, sold out stadiums, intimate workshops, a top 100 iTunes business podcast, international presentations to almost 60 countries, being a featured expert in three books, filming days with the Spice Girls, interviewing aspirational thought leaders, collaborations with dream clients... to name a few personally...
In terms of clients; I have welcomed a wonderful, vibrant, ecletic mix...
Founders, Creatives, Popstars, Journalists, Leaders, Stylists, Speakers, CEOs, Digital experts, Healers, Teachers, Medical professionals. RuIe Makers (Lawyers) and Rule Breakers (Monetising non traditional careers; curating a portfolio career on their terms) Innovators, Technology Trailblazers, Dreamers, Foodies, Raconteurs, Game changers, Artists, Designers, Storytellers, Strategists, Wellbeing experts.
which goes completely against what I was recommended to do.
However; my belief is that you want your personal brand to feel lively; so therefore we need to approach it from a 360 perspective.
My work covers 5 key personal brand areas.
1) Planning. 2) Pricing/packaging (aka how you make money). 3) Your positioning (your digital disco; content, website, messaging, ideal clients) 4) Your presence. (speaking, visibility, growing your audience). 5) Your personal (the inner work most of us maybe avoid but love the results when we do it!)
For example; say you want to add a new income stream into your business... it is not just about the money and the spreadsheet.
You need to plan for it. To see how you feel about it. To have a strategy to sell it. To know how you are going to talk about it. To uncover the limiting beliefs that may try to block it.
