Interview with Johanna Rossi | Raising Women

I was recently interviewed for the Raising Women podcast- a huge honour as I have been an avid listener for a while. You can listen here

What do you do? How would you describe your working life?

I'm a mum of 2, holistic health coach and founder of Raising Women, through my work I support mums to become better at being themselves in motherhood. I would describe my working life as full, creative and flexible.

Did you show any early signs as a child that indicated that you would end up where you are today?

Oh my goodness, that is a great question. I wouldn't say there were any indications that I would end up in this specific role, however, I knew from very young I wanted to work as a creative and one day for myself. I remember I would always create 'work stations', offices, desk spaces where I could create!

Describe your morning routine

Like groundhog day! The alarm goes off at 6.55am. I get up unload the dishwasher, make us all breakfast, get the kids up if they are still asleep and then get them ready and off to school. I then always spend around 20 minutes getting the flat back in order and doing any household chores that need doing, so I'm not up and down from my desk like a yo yo all day. I'll then either start my day with office work, a client session or a podcast.

Where do you get your ideas/inspiration from and when do they arrive?

My ideas and inspiration come as I make one step further into my journey or when I have another 'aha' moment. Who that click has been made and I make another connection in this learning process.

When motivation wavers, how do you get back on track?

I generally turn to decluttering. I go to the mundane. It gets very noisy in my head sometimes and I find what grounds me is clearing my desk, clearing my to do list and using my hands to do some chores at home, often hanging laundry out sets me straight! Sometimes I need to completely switch off and the phone goes away for the weekend and we get out of town, sometimes you need to step away instead of ploughing through.

What is the best thing about your job/lifestyle?

The best thing about my job those precious moments when I've done something I love doing and in the process made someone else feel less alone. My lifestyle? I think the freedom to be able to follow my creative flow.

If you could do something else for the day- what would you do?

Hike.

How do you overcome any challenges in your working life?

It depends the challenge, whether I need to push through, communicate better, step away or step up. As an entrepreneur you have to adapt and you are constantly being challenged.

How do you celebrate your successes?

I don't! I'm very bad at celebrating myself, as I feel very far away from my definition of success still. I coach my clients to acknowledge milestones in their journey, but perhaps I need to find a coach of my own ;-) Due to my past experiences it's not easy for me to see/feel like I've done anything to celebrate.

Do you have any tools/resources or rituals that you couldn't live without?

Instagram, illustrator and photoshop, lost without these in my business. My herbalist and my herbal treatment is keeping my health on track at the minute and just that knowing that I need to step away from it all and breathe every now and then.

Which books from your bookcase would you recommend?

Too many! Edge of Wonder by Victoria Erickson, A Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes, Big Magic by Brene Brown are some recent favourites!

What are your daily essentials to make you feel ready?

My herbs and a good breakfast.

What advice would you give your teenage self?

One day you will make something of the story you are going through now, so be kind to yourself.

Where would you like to be in 5 years time?

I have actually planned a big brainstorming session for Raising Women next week as I would like more focus of where I am going, however for now would I love to to think that in 5 years time I've made Raising Women 'work', and when I say that I mean that I have been able to achieve my definition of success and fulfilled my intention for Raising Women and two that I can make a sustainable income from my work.

Thank you so much Johanna. Find out more here
